Migrating Data Between Exchange Servers - Updated 9/1/2006 - by Bryan
Many people use hosted Microsoft Exchange Server accounts to sync their Windows Mobile devices with. Sometimes they migrate from one service to another. Here's how to get your data from your old exchange server to your new one:
- when outlook is configured for exchange server - it stores all the data in an .ost file
- open up outlook with your old exchange profile - you won't be able to connect to the server if you've already cancelled - but all your data should be accessible
- go to file menu->import and export->export to a file->persaonal folder file (pst)->select the very top level item, check include subfolders, and export ALL your data into a pst file
- configure your new exchange server information (your new service should send you a configuration program/instructions which will either automatically/manually create a new mail profile - accessed from control panel->mail)
- once you get into your new profile - it will be empty - so go to the file menu->import and export->import from another program or file->Personal Folder File (pst) and select the pst file you export into. after the import has finished, depending on how much data you have, it will still take a while for your data to sync from your computer to your new exchange server - so leave it running for a while
- once you are satisfied all your data is ok in your new profile - delete the previous .ost file and the .pst file you created (usually located in C:Documents and SettingsusernameLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook)
AKU2/Push Email Support - Upgrade Your Cingular 2125 ROM - Updated 7/31/2006 - by Bryan
Upgrading your 2125 ROM to the new Cingular ROM will enable push email support with exchange server. Be aware that upgrading to any new ROM will wipe your phone's memory clean, so backup any contacts, programs, or data you might need. It is possible to revert back to the old ROM after performing this upgrade, but i don't have the ROM or instructions here, so upgrade at your own risk. If you're ready to proceed:
- Download the ROM:
- Upgrade your ROM: http://www.htcamerica.net/support/docs/To_CWS_20130_284222_022501_Ship.exe
- Run the ROM exe file you downloaded in the first step. Read all the instructions carefully and do not get impatient.
- The phone will reboot once and then set itself up before rebooting again after which it will be operational.

AKU2/Push Email Support - Upgrade Your T-Mobile SDA ROM - Updated 6/10/2006 - by Bryan
Upgrading your SDA's ROM to the new generic ROM (specifcally for the Qtek 8300 - but works on the SDA) will enable push email support with exchange server. I've used this ROM and have found no problems with it. Be aware that upgrading to any new ROM will wipe your phone's memory clean, so backup any contacts, programs, or data you might need. Also, be aware that upgrading to the Qtek ROM will wipe out all your T-Mobile branded features and any software they bundled with the phone. It is possible to revert back to the old T-Mobile ROM after performing this upgrade, but i don't have the ROM or instructions here, so upgrade at your own risk. If you're ready to proceed:
- Download the files:

- registry editor RegEditSTG.zip: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=18612
- phone unlocker - SPV Services: http://www.spv-developers.com/content/SPV-Services.zip
- unzip all 3 files into separate directories onto your computer
- Prepare your phone for step #3 with the registry editor:
- Connect up your phone to the PC and hit "Explore" in activesync and then browse to "My Windows Mobile-Based Device"->Temp and copy the regeditstg exe file to this Temp directory
- ON YOUR PHONE go to Start->More until you find File Explorer. Open it up and browse to the Temp directory on your phone and run regedtstg.exe.
- In the registry editor, navigate to: HKLMSecurityPoliciesPolicies
- Click "Values" soft-key
- Change "00001001" value to 1 (decimal) (recovery note: default is 2)
- Change "00001005" value to 40 (decimal) (recovery note: default is 16)
- Change "00001017" value to 144 (decimal) (recovery note: default is 128)
- Add new DWORD value "0000101b" and assign it a value of 1 (decimal)
- Reboot the phone
- Unock your phone with the SPV-Services files so the ROM will install:
- Using the same procedure as above, copy the Cert.CAB file from the SPV-Services zip file to the Temp directory on your mobile device and then use the phone's file manager to browse to the file and run it. It should flash up a warning about being unsigned - just click "yes" and let it install.
- ON YOUR COMPUTER - With the phone still connected to the PC and turned on, run the SPV-Services.exe from the SPV-Services.
- In the spv-services.exe tool, Click "CID Tool (Alpha)" on the left hand side - it will read the CID from your Phone. You can copy and paste the CID number that was collected to your PC in a text file to make sure you have a backup for whatever reason.
- Click the "Set CID to 1111111" button and be patient. Do not switch your phone, restart your computer or unplug the phone!
- Wait for the process to complete successfully, and then reboot the phone.
- Here's what you've been waiting for - upgrade your ROM with the ROM Updater:
- Run the ROM updater you downloaded in the first step (the .exe file). Read all the instructions carefully and do not get impatient.
- The phone will reboot once and then set itself up before rebooting again after which it will be operational.
- You will need to set the date/time/regional settings (start->settings) and re-setup the internet/mms settings:

SIM Unlock Your T-Mobile SDA/Cingular 2125 Phone - Updated 6/9/2006 - by Bryan
SIM unlocking your phone allows you to use any other GSM carrier's SIM card in your phone. You will need to have Microsoft Activesync installed and a native SIM Card in your phone to unlock it (i.e. T-Mobile SIM in the SDA, Cingular SIM in the 2125).
- Download the files SPV-Services Client: http://www.spv-developers.com/content/SPV-Services.zip and unzip onto your computer.
- Connect your phone to the PC and hit "Explore" in activesync and then browse to "My Windows Mobile-Based Device"->Temp and copy the cert.cab file to this Temp directory.
- ON YOUR PHONE go to Start->More until you find File Explorer. Open it up and browse to the Temp directory on your phone and run the cert.cab file, and then reboot your phone.
- ON YOUR COMPUTER, run the SPVServices.exe file, chose the SIM Lock option, and follow the instructions to unlock your phone.
You're done! If you are using a foreign SIM card in your phone and are using the internet, you may need to setup your phone with your network's data settings:

FoxIt PDF Reader - Updated 6/1/2006 - by Bryan

Most people are familiar with PDF files and using Adobe Reader to open these files. Adobe Reader is a relatively simple program that just basically displays PDF files that for some inexplicable reason takes a download of over 20mb to install and is one of the more sluggish programs on my computer. The other day i had to open a PDF on a computer that didn't have Adobe Reader installed and finally decided i had had enough with Adobe and it's bloated software littering my hard drive - so i went looking for alternatives. I found a great little program that does just about everything Adobe Reader does - with blinding speed and a 1.26mb download! It's called Foxit Reader and is available free here: foxitsoftware.com I'd highly recommend it.
